Day 23: Settling in and Changing Plans at Buehlstrasse 14 (8/3/2010)

Woke up at 9:30am this morning, and was too excited to go back to sleep. I’m just that happy to be back at the house in Germany! Wandered upstairs and had tea with toast and jam for breakfast. Nothing has been moved so I can easily find everything I need in the kitchen.

After breakfast, I wrote Scott an email on my laptop and copied over, and sorted the pictures I took over the past few days. I have a lot of work to do updating my blog including uploading a picture for each day we’ve been gone so far. Sorting through the pictures is a first step. I also took the time to show Baerbel and Jonathan the pictures and tell them about our travels thus far.

Sooner than I knew it, it was time for lunch. Baerbel made us noodles with ham which was quite good with fresh, grate it yourself, parmasan cheese. While the four of us ate lunch, we discussed the trip to Dresden tomorrow. Davin and Jonathan were entirely against it. Both preferring to rest and play computer games. Baerbel was against it because she was developing a cold and felt it would be too stressful on her to go. I also didn’t really want to go but did want to see my cousin Lissy who lives in Dresden. We decided to ask if Lissy could come here instead. Over lunch, Davin also suggested that maybe Jonathan would like to play Borderlands with us since we really haven’t gotten very far into the game. So when lunch was over, Davin and Jonathan headed downstairs to get the game installed. Baerbel called Lissy and said that she would come visit us tomorrow instead of the other way around. Now we only had to somehow inform Leigh of the change in plans. Leigh is in Germany doing his own trip, but none of us has a way to contact him.

I felt that we should start the game over so that Jonathan could have the full game experience. We had been playing for about an hour when Baerbel called to say she was going to the grocery store. So Davin and I left Jonathan to catch up by himself, and went to the store with her to get some desired supplies.

Alas, the local store Edeka’s stock was quite limited. Davin was able to find Special K with various things mixed in, fruit or chocolate, but no plain. And they didn’t carry Dr. Pepper. I wasn’t really surprised about that, but last year the big store in town carried it, so we will have to check there. I did get Nutella though. I love to eat Nutella on vanilla ice cream. We also got a 1L of Coca Cola to tied us over until Dr. Pepper can be found. We also got sandwich materials: Swiss cheese and turkey ham. We offered to pay for our things but Baerbel refused to hear of us paying while at home. We stopped briefly at the other small local grocery store, ReWe, to get a few things Baerbel needed that Edeka was out of. We also bought some cakes to eat with tea when we got home.

After eating our tea and cakes, Davin and I played Borderlands with Jonathan some more. He had caught up to us by the time we got back from shopping. We continued playing til about 7pm when Baerbel called us to dinner. Right before I went to dinner Leigh came online and I informed him of the change of plans. Unfortunately, he had already purchased his ticket to Dresden that morning, but he was going to look into getting it change. For dinner, we had shish-kabobs, and pork cutlets with broccoli.

After dinner, I sent Scott some pictures from our trip. Then Lissy called to say she couldn’t come tomorrow after all. Her roommate was returning from out of town and needed her to let her into the apartment. She also had some necessary cleaning and packing to do for her internship in Berlin which starts on Monday. I decided I just wasn’t up to taking a four hour train ride tomorrow, so Davin and I will just have to visit Lissy in Berlin later this month. Also, I had no way to contact Leigh again, so I didn’t feel I could buy a ticket to Dresden on the off chance Leigh changed his ticket to come to Bayreuth. Later, Leigh came online and said that he decided to go to Dresden after all. It's just as well. I adore both Lissy and Leigh, but I honestly am grateful to just have the next few days to completely relax. I do NOT want to sightsee or necessarily be sociable. Sorry guys! Leigh and Lissy will have a good time together in Dresden though I’m sure.

That debacle resolved, I left my computer on to patch Star Trek Online, and went upstairs to play Little Big Planet with Jonathan. Around midnight I decided it was time for bed, and went to sleep. Davin was doing something on his computer after dinner, and continued to be on his computer until the wee hours of the morning.
