I set my alarm for 9am today. I really, really didn’t want to get up! Both Davin and I look forward to a day when we can just SLEEP IN! We had a lot of driving to do today though, so we rolled out of bed. We finished packing up all our shit, and hauled it all back to the car. We skipped breakfast again to get going faster, or to sleep in more, either reason would be accurate.
We drove two and a half hours until we reached the National Woolen Museum of Wales. This was our driving break stop. We didn’t expect it to be that great, but we were pleasantly surprised at how interesting we found it to be. The museum explained the process of turning raw wool into cloth. So now I know things like what carded wool is, and where the expressions blue collar and white collar workers came from. Apparently, only white collar workers were rich enough to keep white shirts a crisp, clean white color.
The best part of the museum was the industrial revolution era wool processing machines. We were lucky enough to arrive in time for a demonstration of the machines. One machine cards the wool. Then the next machine cards it again and then turns it into soft thread. Then this thread is spun into hard thread by the Mule. This machine was something like 100 feet long (the entire long width of the mill), and it is able to spin 400 threads at a time and is operated by only one person!! Needless to say, when it was invented the Mule led to massive layoffs in the spinning industry.
After an hour in the woolen mill, we got back on the road. We drove north for another 3.5 hours. We didn’t have time to go to Harlech castle which was on the way, but we will have time to see it tomorrow.
We arrived at our hotel around 6:30pm. We settled in, and then went to look for a laundromat. We had gotten directions from the owner of the hotel and found the place but it is only open until 6pm. There is no way we are going to make it there before it closes tomorrow.
On our way to the laundromat we had seen a PC store. We stopped there and bought some cheap speakers for Davin’s computer. Now we can watch Star Trek:Voyager out loud with his computer and on his big monitor. It’s as big as your average sized television! Next, we stopped at the Tesco and bought ice and dinner. Our hotel has a microwave, so we took advantage of that. We bought a bag of take away Indian food. It was quite a lot of food for only 6.75 Pounds.
Back at the hotel we ate our dinner. We were pleasantly surprised that it actually tasted really good! Plus, we have enough leftovers for tomorrow night as well, we just have to buy another pack of rice.
After dinner, I worked on the blog updates while Davin watched enough Voyagers to catch up to me after my binge watching last night. He watched them using the speakers we bought earlier. It’s just like watching on TV. I’m also really happy that now we can play music out loud in our hotel rooms in the evening. Yaaaaaaaaay!
We didn’t get to bed early. The last Voyager we watched ended around 12:40pm. Then we went to sleep.
