Day 82: A Relaxing Day of Chores and Whatever (10/2/2010)

Today we got up at 11am. I washed all the dishes from our meals and cooking last night. Then I ate pancakes that I heated up in the toaster. Meanwhile, Davin was taking a morning bath again. After I finished eating, I made the last batch of pancakes and cooked them up. Davin got out of the tub and had some of the fresh pancakes for breakfast. I watched one Voyager while I was cooking, and Davin and I watched one half of a Voyager when he got out of the tub. By the time we had both eaten, I had cooked up all the pancakes, and washed all the dishes again, it was 2pm.

We then went out to find the Chesterfield Library. There we were able to print our cruise tickets for 75pence. Parking to get to the library cost us 80pence. Our next errand for the day was to go to Tesco. There we bought six 2L bottles of Dr. Pepper, and bought a stash of chips and salsa. We are taking these things for snacks on the cruise ship. We also bought ice one last time. We hope to break the cooler down soon and put it away.

Our errands complete, we drove to Bolsover castle to check it out. On the way I suddenly heard a weird hissing noise coming from behind my seat. I peeked back and saw a mist on the door. Uhoh... "I think a soda bottle just exploded in the back" I said to Davin. "No way", he said. "You better pull over quick!!" I said. It turned out that the 2L bottle just happened to roll (on a perfectly easy turn) into a sharp metal piece underneath my seat, and it was enough to puncture the bottle!

Back underway, we came to Bolsover castle. It looked pretty impressive up on a high hill overlooking a valley. Davin and I will try to visit it tomorrow unless it’s raining.

We drove back to hotel and arrived around 5pm. First thing we did was finish this morning’s Voyager. Then I went in the tub for 2.5 hours and read my backlog of investment materials. Meanwhile, Daving worked on his RPG.

At 9pm we went to the Roadchef for dinner. We made a mistake here. We thought it was open until 10pm, but it was only open til 9pm and we were too late. So we returned to the hotel and asked the receptionist if there were any takeaway Chinese restaurants around. We drove to the small, nearby town of Huthwaite and bought some Kung Po Chicken and Hot and Sour Soup for dinner.

Back at the hotel we ate our Chinese food for dinner and discussed for awhile. Then we watched a Voyager. I think it’s the best hot and sour soup we’ve had on the trip yet. It was similar to what hot and sour soup is like back home. More sour and less sweet. Davin was disappointed it wasn’t the British Chinese flavored soup, but he enjoyed it as well. We took a break mid Voyager episode (11:15pm) to go to the Roadchef to use the internet. We mapped out tomorrow’s destinations, as well as those of Florida. Then I said ‘goodbye’ to Scott. We will be without internet for almost two weeks now.

We got back to our room at 11:30pm. Then we finished our Voyager and packed up. Lastly, I washed our dishes and Davin packed up the dry good bag. I made it to bed at 1:30pm, and Davin was in bed by 2am.
