Today we woke up at 10:30am. We skipped breakfast as usual, and we out of the hotel by 11am. We decided not to visit Bolsover castle today. It would just be too much with all the driving. On the road south, Davin and I had our usual breakfast of Kit Kats and Dr. Pepper. It’s a very balanced breakfast...
We drove South on the M1 from 11:30am-2:30pm. At 2:30pm, we arrived at Windsor castle. We didn’t have time for lunch so we skipped that too. We bought enough parking for 2 hours. Then we walked to the castle. It was reminiscent of Arundel castle on the outside. It has really impressive architecture. It took us almost a half hour waiting in line to buy tickets just to get in. That left us with only 1.5 hours to see the castle. I set my timer to go off after 1h15minutes. At that time we had to head back to the car.
We did the audio tour and learned about the castles history. It has been inhabited by the monarchs of England and later Britain continuously for 900 years. The most impressive aspect of the castle is its outside architecture.
The inside is also very nice, but it still didn’t compare to Arundel castle. The audio tour was less interesting inside as well. It went on and on about all the works of art adorning the walls. We aren’t that interested in random paintings. One cool object was Queen Vicoria’s doll house. It is a huge three story palace and it is fully furnished with all the amenities a doll Queen would need. It was built for the adult Queen, not for a child, but it sure would be fun to play with. I always look at collectible toys with a tinge of sadness. It’s such a shame to prevent some kid from getting the joy out of playing with it. Of course, kids ruin things, but nothing lasts forever.
We made it back to the car at exactly 4:31pm, the time when our 2 hour parking expired. We got back on the road south. We kept an eye out for a Roadchef. We wanted to get Bangers and Mash one last time. We had planned to have it for dinner last night, but the obviously didn’t work out. The first one we found was closed for remodel! We were starting to think that it just wasn’t meant to be! But the second one we found was successful. Davin quickly used the internet to look up the best way to see Lisbon, Portugal. Our cruise ship will arrive there Thursday. We plan to take it easy and not worry too much about seeing the sights.
We arrived at our hotel at 7:30pm. It was a bit crowded in the lobby. It was clear that a lot of people going on the Norwegian Sun tomorrow were staying at the Premier Inn Dover the night before. After we checked in, we filled up the rental car’s gas tank so that it would be ready to turn in tomorrow. Back at the hotel room, we watched 2 Voyagers, warmed up our leftover Chinese food for dinner, then ate pancakes for a really late breakfast, took turns showering, and then packed up all our food and computers again. We were in bed by midnight.
