Day 86: Riding the Waves (10/6/2010)

Davin and I woke up at 10:45am today. Too late to get to breakfast really (ends at 11am), so we didn’t bother. We stayed in bed til noon, there wasn’t any reason to get up really, and we didn’t look forward to dealing with the rocking ship.

A little after noon we finally got up. We decided to try one of the sit down restaurants to lunch, for a change. We went to the Sevon Sea restaurant. It was just like going to any restaurant, except the choices of food were limited, and chances are there aren’t many things that appeal to you. We both ordered the potato and leek soup for an appetizer, and the fettuccine alfredo with smoked turkey as our entree. The food was decent, possibly better than the buffet, but the time you waste waiting for your food pretty much counteracts any bonuses to sit down dining. It took us over an hour to eat. I don’t think we will be going to the sit down restaurants very often. Still, I guess it was a good experience since we weren’t even allowed to go to the fancy restaurants on the QM2.

We returned to our room. I worked on writing my backlog of blog updates, and I caught up on all of them. Yay! Then I watched one of my backlogged movies: Driving Miss Wealthy. It’s an amusing movie. I’ve seen it once before, and it wasn’t really worth watching again. Oh well. Davin played a little Machinarium and then worked on his RPG. He is creating symbols to be used in a mini game for one of the characters, the scientist I think.

At 5pm, we went to get a little exercise. Unfortunately, I had a headache so I didn’t really feel like doing anything too strenuous. So we decided to ease ourselves into exercise. Today we walked four laps around the ship at a brisk pace. Then we went to get some dinner. There was a Mexican theme at the buffet this evening. We ate chicken fajitas, quesadillas, and tostadas. The best thing was the tostada, but even that wasn’t very good. I really think the food was better on the QM2. One good thing we discovered is that they serve chips and salsa in the Las Ramblas restaurant and bar. So we can get chips and salsa to bring back to our room to snack on. The chips and salsa actually taste good too.

Back in our room, the two of us watched a Voyager together and ate our chips and salsa. Then I started played Mass Effect 2. It’s the first time I’ve had time to play since leaving Germany. I’m happy about that. I really like the game, and I’m so close to beating it! Then I’ll get to pick a new game to play. That’s always fun too.

Davin went back to working on his symbols. I’m impressed with his creativity in coming up with the different patterns, but he complains that it is taking forever. I was forced to take a break from ME2 at 10:15pm because my computer kept overheating. Unfortunately, there is only one chair and one real table in our room, and Davin gets to use them by default because his computer can’t be set up anywhere else. I don’t mind, but it means that I have to use my computer on my lap, and it eventually has trouble cooling properly when not placed on a flat surface. It has a kind of stupid design too, the vent for letting the heat escape is really too small, and it can be easy covered by mistake. Anyway, I took a break and wrote today’s update. Davin finished his symbols shortly after that. I checked them out and told him that they had turned out really well.

Then we went up to grab a small second dinner before the last restaurant closed. Back in the room we watched another Voyager, and we went to bed around midnight. We are going to try to get up a bit early tomorrow so that we have more time to walk around Lisbon. We aren’t going to go see anything in particular though, just walk around, admire, eat lunch, and return to the ship. Should be a fun day.
